Job summary

St. Joe’s Medical Group in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Physician Assistant to join our orthopedic surgery team supporting Trinity Health Grand Rapids.

The role may be full-time or part-time and requires after-hours and weekend availability in clinic and operating room settings. You will conduct histories and exams, assist in the OR, order and interpret diagnostic tests, manage perioperative care, educate patients, and document in Epic.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited PA program.
• Active PA-C license in Michigan.
• Current BLS and ACLS certification.
• DEA license.
• 1–2 years post-graduate PA-C experience, preferable in an orthopedic or surgical specialty.

Responsibilities

• Conducting comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations for orthopedic patients
• Assist surgeons in the operating room and perform minor procedures as delegated
• Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests, including imaging studies and labs
• Manage pre-operative and post-operative patient care, including wound care and rehabilitation planning
• Provide patient education regarding procedures, treatment options, and recovery plans
• Collaborate with physical therapists, clinical staff, and other members of various interdisciplinary care teams to optimize patient outcomes
• Document all patient care accurately in the EMR (Epic)
• Participate in the office call pool for afterhours and weekend needs.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to clinical protocols and guidelines

• Schedule: TBD, anticipate clinic/OR and call hours requiring night and weekend availability
• Location: Grand Rapids and Byron Center Michigan
• Specialty: Orthopedic Surgery
• Hospital Info: Trinity Health Grand Rapids, Level 2 trauma center. Southwest Surgical Center – Ambulatory surgical center.
• Team Size: 9 physicians and 7 APPs
• Teaching Opportunities: No direct teaching responsibilities but the practice does support resident education.
• Call Requirements: Office call and occasional primary hospital call

Requirements:

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program
• Active PA-C license in the State of Michigan
• Current BLS and ACLS certification
• DEA license
• 1–2 years of post-graduate PA-C experience, preferable in an orthopedic or surgical specialty
• Demonstrated clinical judgment, procedural proficiency, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced orthopedic setting
• Excellent communication skills with a focus on patient education and engagement
