Job summary

Banner University Medical Group in Tucson, AZ, seeks a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join the Orthopedic Spine Surgery team. You will work with fellowship-trained spine surgeons in an academic medical center, delivering high-quality spine care across a broad range of conditions.

You will participate in perioperative care, evaluate complex spine pathology, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in a high-volume setting, enjoying autonomy with expert support.

Qualifications

• Current licensure in Arizona as a Physician Assistant or ACNP (eligible if in process).
• Current BLS certification.
• Prescribing privileges with DEA eligibility.
• Excellent clinical judgment and communication.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced academic surgical setting.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with orthopedic spine surgeons, residents, APPs, nursing, rehabilitation and other teams to provide spine care.
• Assist in perioperative care from admission through postoperative recovery.
• Evaluate patients with degenerative disease, stenosis, disc disease, deformity, fractures and other spine pathology.
• Work in a high-volume academic environment with routine and complex spine cases.
• Collaborate with subspecialties and services to expand clinical expertise.
• Practice with autonomy while consulting with senior surgeons for support.
• Utilize advanced surgical approaches and technology including minimally invasive, endoscopic, and image-guided/navigation systems.

Banner University Medical Center Tucson is seeking a skilled and compassionate Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join our growing Orthopedic Spine Surgery team. Based at our state-of-the-art academic medical center, this role offers the opportunity to work alongside fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeons while caring for patients with a broad range of spinal conditions.

As part of Banner University Medical Group and the University of Arizona Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, you will practice in a collaborative academic environment that brings together advanced clinical care, education, and research. Our Tucson orthopedic program provides comprehensive specialty care across spine, trauma, hand and upper extremity, joint reconstruction, sports medicine, foot and ankle, and other orthopedic subspecialties.

What You Will Do:

• Collaborate closely with orthopedic spine surgeons, residents, APPs, nursing, rehabilitation, and other multidisciplinary team members to provide high-quality spine care.
• Participate in the perioperative care of patients undergoing spine procedures, supporting continuity of care from admission through postoperative recovery.
• Evaluate patients with a variety of spinal conditions, including degenerative disease, spinal stenosis, disc disease, deformity, fractures/trauma, and other complex spine pathology.
• Work within a high-volume academic environment with exposure to both routine and complex orthopedic spine cases.
• Collaborate with multiple orthopedic subspecialties and other services as needed, providing an excellent opportunity to expand your clinical expertise.
• Practice with a high degree of autonomy while having access to an experienced network of orthopedic surgeons and specialists for support.
• The Tucson orthopedic spine program incorporates advanced surgical approaches and technology, including minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery and image‑guided/navigation technology, providing APPs exposure to an evolving and innovative area of orthopedic care.

What We Are Looking For:

• Energetic and Detail‑Oriented: You are a proactive communicator who is passionate about delivering excellent patient care.
• Experienced and Adaptable: Previous experience in orthopedic surgery, spine, neurosurgery, trauma, urgent care, or emergency medicine is highly valued. Experienced APPs with transferable surgical or inpatient experience are encouraged to apply.
• Collaborative and Resourceful: You thrive in a multidisciplinary environment and are comfortable making clinical decisions within a collaborative care model.
• Interested in Academic Medicine: You value working alongside physicians, residents, and other learners in an environment focused on clinical excellence, education, and innovation.

Qualifications:

• Current or eligible for unrestricted Arizona licensure as a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
• Current BLS certification.
• Prescribing privileges, including eligibility for DEA registration.
• Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced academic and surgical environment.
