Job summary

Sanford Health is seeking a Dermatology Nurse Practitioner to provide advanced nursing care in dermatology, performing skin assessments, diagnoses, and procedures in collaboration with dermatologists.

The NP will contribute to patient education, disease prevention, and skin health, with travel up to 2 days weekly for outreach services; clinic hours are Mon-Fri, 8–5.

Qualifications

• Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited NP program.
• Experience preferred; derm training available off-site.
• Willing to travel up to 2 days per week for outreach dermatology services.
• Clinic hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
• Current RN and NP licensure in each state of practice.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive dermatologic evaluations and skin exams.
• Diagnose and manage acne, eczema, psoriasis, skin cancers, infections, hair/nail disorders.
• Perform procedures and cosmetic treatments (as privileged).
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests (labs, cultures, pathology).
• Prescribe medications and develop treatment plans.
• Educate patients on skincare, disease prevention, and treatment compliance.
• Document encounters in the EHR accurately.
• Collaborate with dermatologist on complex/high-risk cases.

Summary

The Dermatology Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care for patients with acute and chronic dermatologic conditions. Working collaboratively with dermatologists and other healthcare providers, the NP performs skin assessments, diagnoses, and procedures, including biopsies and cosmetic treatments. The NP plays a vital role in patient education, disease prevention, and promoting skin health.

Job Description

• Conduct comprehensive dermatologic evaluations and skin exams.
• Diagnose and manage conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, skin cancers, infections, and hair/nail disorders.
• Perform procedures & cosmetic treatments (as privileged)
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., lab work, cultures, pathology reports).
• Prescribe medications and develop treatment plans.
• Educate patients on skincare, disease prevention, and treatment compliance.
• Document patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Collaborate with dermatologist on complex or high-risk cases

Qualifications

• Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
• If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.
• Experience preferred but derm specific training available as needed off site.
• Must be willing to travel up to 2 days per week to provide outreach dermatology services
• Clinic hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
• Minimum 1-2 years of dermatology or relevant NP experience preferred.
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice.
• Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice.
• State Controlled Substance License (if required by State)
• National board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (NP-C) or (FNP-BC).
• Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
• Privileging documents and related credentialing requirements will supersede this job description in defining minimum qualifications, criteria, and scope of practice, if variation between documents exists.
