**Job Summary:**

The Surgical Nurse Practitioner (NP) works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team. The NP provides healthcare in ambulatory and acute health care settings, including management of surgical patients from pre-operative, peri-operative, and post-operative phases. The NP has didactic education, clinical competency, and national certification in the identified area of practice. The NP demonstrates medical knowledge, clinical judgment, technical competence, professionalism, interpersonal skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation. The NP has an advanced knowledge of nursing theory and application.

**Responsibilities:**

  • Obtain and document health history; perform and document physical examinations, assessments, and care plans.
  • Provide healthcare services for primary, acute, and complex care, managing overall patient care and expected outcomes.
  • Order, interpret, and collect diagnostic data and procedures.
  • Form differential diagnoses and treat conditions.
  • Prescribe pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic, and surgical interventions.
  • Utilize evidence-based protocols and facilitate referrals and consultations.
  • Coordinate patient transitions across healthcare settings.

**Qualifications:**

  • TN license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant
  • Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) / Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP)
  • Physician Assistant (PA)
