Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Virginia seeks an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) – Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner for our Emergency Medicine team. This role supports high-acuity care and collaborates with physicians, nurses, and specialists in a fast-paced ED.

Shifts are 24/7 with days, mids, overnights, weekends, and holidays; APPs may work at multiple ED sites across Carilion Clinic to broaden experience and support a flexible workforce while delivering exceptional patient care.

Formación

• Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and Nurse Practitioner program or an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Experience: 1 year of clinical Emergency Medicine experience preferred.
• Licensure: Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Nurse Practitioners must also hold a current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia. Must be eligible for prescriptive authority.
• Life Support: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications required as appropriate to the position.
• Other Minimum Qualifications: Must maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of Carilion

This is an excellent opportunity for an APP who enjoys variety, high-acuity medicine, and working as part of a collaborative Emergency Medicine team. APPs are integral members of our department and have the opportunity to practice across all areas of the Emergency Department, gaining broad clinical experience while caring for a diverse patient population.

With more than 88,000 patient visits each year, you will encounter a wide range of illnesses and injuries—from lower-acuity concerns to complex medical emergencies and trauma.

Responsibilities include evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients; ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies; performing procedures within scope of practice; developing treatment and disposition plans; and collaborating closely with Emergency Medicine physicians, nurses, specialists, and other members of the care team.

Scheduling & Flexibility

Emergency Medicine requires 24/7 coverage, and shifts include days, mids, overnights, weekends, and holidays. We are committed to providing a fair and equitable scheduling process across the APP team.

Who We're Looking For

Our ideal candidate will have completed a postgraduate Emergency Medicine fellowship. We will also consider candidates with:

• At least one year of Emergency Medicine experience
• Family Medicine or Internal Medicine experience combined with Urgent Care experience
• Strong new graduates who have completed robust Emergency Medicine clinical rotations and demonstrate excellent clinical skills, judgment, and readiness for a fast-paced environment
