The role requires an MSN/DNP or PA program, Alabama licensure eligibility, and a current RN license with BLS. Schedule is full-time on rotating 12-hour shifts, including daytime and evening coverage.

Qualifications

  • MSN, DNP or PA program with pediatric NP or FNP specialization.
  • Graduate of master's or doctoral level PA program.
  • 1 year nursing or medical experience; subspecialty preferred.
  • Eligible to practice as NP or PA in Alabama.
  • Current RN licensure in Alabama for NP role.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Certifications: PNP, FNP or PA-C认证.

Responsibilities

  • Provide autonomous and collaborative pediatric care.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat pediatric patients with acute and chronic illnesses.
  • Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and contribute to clinical education.

Job description

In Nursing Advanced Practice Providers at Main Campus Children's of Alabama

Work schedule will be Full-time on the Rotating Shift, Mostly 11a-11p, but some rotating shifts.

Summary

The Advanced Practice Provider is an advanced practice registered nurse or physician’s assistant with education, training, certification, and licensure to provide care for a specified patient population. This individual will deliver care for patients including prevention/management of common pediatric illnesses and conditions, technologically dependent, and highly vulnerable for complications with acute, complex and/or chronic illnesses. This care is provided to support optimal health of children within the context of their family, community, and environmental setting. The components of the role include clinical practice, consultation, professional development, education, and scholarship. This individual works in collaboration with the collaborating physician, Division Medical Director, staff physicians, Lead APP, Director of Advanced Practice Providers, Department Director, staff nurses and other team members.

Other Information
Education
  • MSN, DNP or Post-Graduate Certificate with specialization as a pediatric nurse practitioner or family nurse practitioner
  • Graduate of master’s or doctoral level physician assistant program
Experience
  • At least 1 year of nursing or medical experience required with experience in the subspecialty area preferred
Licensures, Certifications, and/or Registries
  • Must be eligible to practice as a nurse practitioner as determined by the Alabama Board of Nursing or as a physician assistant as determined by the Alabama Board of Medicine
  • Current RN Licensure in the State of Alabama for nurse practitioners
  • Current BLS certification
  • Valid Primary Care PNP, Acute Care PNP or FNP certification from appropriate certifying board or certification as PA-C from NCCPA
Credentials with Equivalent Qualifications
  • Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner ABON
  • Basic Life Support
  • Registered Nurse AL Single State or any of the following equivalent qualifications below:
  • Registered Nurse AL NLC Multi State
  • Registered Nurse Non-AL NLC Multi State
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Acute Care PNCB or any of the following equivalent qualifications below:
  • Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Primary Care PNCB
  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner ANCC
  • Family Nurse Practitioner AANP
  • Family Nurse Practitioner ANCC

The Nursing Advanced Practice Providers (APP) department comprises highly trained nurse practitioners and physician assistants who provide expert, autonomous, and collaborative care throughout nearly all divisions of the health system. APPs serve a critical role in patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management, delivering quality healthcare by working closely with physicians, specialists, and multidisciplinary teams. Their responsibilities extend from direct patient care and health promotion to leading quality improvement initiatives and contributing to clinical education. By integrating advanced clinical knowledge with compassionate care, the APP department enhances patient outcomes, improves access to services, and supports the health system’s commitment to delivering comprehensive, high-quality care across diverse clinical settings.
