APP - Advanced Practice Provider: II Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM)
Primary Purpose

Responsible for providing healthcare in designated primary or specialty areas, including patient diagnoses, treatment, education, and referrals. Acts as a resource and role model for clinical practice, training, evaluation, and management of practitioners and students to ensure high-quality patient care. Assists leadership in planning, organizing, and implementing APP activities.

Minimum Specifications
Education
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN): Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program (CCNE or Accreditation Commission).
  • Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree and completion of an accredited PA program recognized by ARC-PA.
Experience
  • At least 3 years of clinical experience performing similar duties.
  • At least 5 years of clinical experience in any field.
Equivalent Education and/or Experience

Current employees hired before 3/1/2014 may have an equivalent experience/education combination.

Certification/Registration/Licensure
  • Current healthcare provider CPR from AHA, ARC, or Military Training Network.
  • Maintain licensing and registration as per Medical Staff policies.
  • Current certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 90 days of hire and throughout employment.
  • For Nurse Practitioners: Valid RN and APRN licenses in Texas, with active certification (FNP, PNP, NNP, WHCNP).
  • For Nurse Midwives: Valid RN and APRN licenses, with certification as a CNM from AMCB.
  • For Physician Assistants: Valid PA license and certification from NCC and Texas Board.
Skills and Abilities
  • Provide care according to Texas laws, protocols, and standards.
  • Demonstrate clinical leadership, effective communication, and patient-centered behaviors. Spanish proficiency is preferred.
Responsibilities
  1. Perform clinical activities in designated specialties, including history-taking, exams, assessments, and planning care.
  2. Accurately document health information and coordinate with supervising physicians.
  3. Involve patients and families in care planning, education, and follow-up.
  4. Train and evaluate students and serve as a role model.
  5. Stay current with practice trends through seminars, journals, and professional organizations.
  6. Collaborate with staff, provide patient-centered care, and maintain compliance with regulations.
  7. Participate in quality improvement, research, and departmental goal-setting.
