Job Description

General Description: An Advanced Practice Provider (APP), including physician assistants (P.A.-C) and nurse practitioners (N.P.), works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care in outpatient and/or inpatient settings. Responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion, and care coordination for patients with acute and chronic needs. Collaborates with administrative, nursing, physician, and academic staff to ensure safe, effective, quality care and supports OU Health’s educational and research missions. Provides care within their scope of practice as defined by applicable laws, regulations, and policies.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Clinical: Performs history and physical assessments, orders and interprets diagnostic studies, develops and adjusts care plans, and maintains accurate documentation.
  • Patient Care: Offers patient and family-centered care, promotes health, prevents illness, and manages treatment across the lifespan. Facilitates coordinated care and involves patients and families in planning. Uses evidence-based practices and develops standards of care.
  • Research: Participates in research to improve patient care.
  • Communication: Collaborates with healthcare professionals, educates patients and families, and advocates within the healthcare system.
  • Activities: Contributes to education, quality initiatives, and team collaboration.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing or physician assistant program with MSN or Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies.
  • 3+ years of experience preferred.
  • Must obtain prescriptive authority within 6 months.

For Nurse Practitioners: Active RN and APRN licenses in Oklahoma.

For Physician Assistants: Active PA license and NCCPA certification in Oklahoma.

All must obtain DEA license and CPR, with additional certifications as relevant, within specified timeframes.

  • Knowledge of medical conditions, pharmacology, and clinical procedures.
  • Proficiency in clinical skills, communication, teamwork, and professionalism.
  • Ability to work flexibly, prioritize, and utilize technology effectively.
