Job description

Pay: Starting at $25/hr., depending on experience

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Shop Foreman, operates electric welding apparatus and acetylene welding apparatus to fuse metal parts using arc welding or oxy-acetylene methods.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  • Safely and efficiently use welding tools to cut, lay out, fit, and weld sheet metal and other metals to fabricate or repair equipment.
  • Receive daily tasks from the supervisor for specific projects or tasks.
  • Read blueprints for specific job tasks.
  • Perform equipment repairs and plant maintenance using welding tools such as grinders, wire brushes, cutting torches, or discs.
  • Fabricate necessary parts using welding machines or oxy-acetylene torches.
  • Lift varying weights occasionally, up to 50 lbs.
  • Follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures, wearing PPE as required.
  • Possession of a Commercial Driver's License Class B may be required.
  • Perform minor servicing and maintenance of welding equipment and supplies.
  • Conduct daily pre- and post-inspections of trucks with proper documentation.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude at all times.
  • Ensure reliable attendance.

Education and/or Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED minimum.
  • Technical education or certification in basic welding and fitting.
  • Welding certification approved by the state is preferred but not required.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Knowledge of welding techniques such as TIG, MIG, STICK.
  • Proficiency with welding tools and equipment.
  • Experience with metals and alloys.
  • Ability to make timely decisions.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, safety rules, and manuals.
  • Effective communication skills for presenting information to supervisors and colleagues.
Physical Requirements

Must meet physical demands including lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, kneeling, squatting, standing, walking, reaching, and working in various environmental conditions. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.

Work Environment

Exposure to noise, fumes, gases, dust, and hazards associated with heavy machinery. PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, vests, gloves, and steel-toed shoes are required.
