Your Role on the Team

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Anatomic Pathology, the AP Surgical Pathology Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the daily oversight and operations of the Gross Room Department, including the supervision of staff (hiring, training, corrective action, staff competencies, etc.) The incumbent will play a critical role in the accurate, timely, and safe processing of all surgical pathology specimens, supporting both the pathologists and pathologists' assistants in maintaining diagnostic excellence. Will develop and implement quality control programs to ensure reliability of testing procedures, proper function of laboratory equipment and compliance with federal regulations. Prepare and maintain applicable records. Establish and maintain instrument procedures. Assist in instrument troubleshooting. Will be required to assist in some technical aspects.

• Willingness to participate in teleconferences and other continuing education program
• Willingness and ability to train new pathologists’ assistant students
• Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
• Must have a minimum five years of relevant experience in a surgical pathology grossing environment as lead
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
• Must be ASCP certified
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Bachelor’s degree in a biological science or related field.
• Ability to work with Excel, Outlook and Word.
• Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
• Ability to communicate effectively with resident and faculty in regard to different issues
