Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Accessions and prepares gynecologic and nongynecemic specimens, monitors storage and safe disposal, and maintains safety guidelines.
  • Monitors and maintains processing and staining equipment; documents activities and maintains cytology slide files.
  • Uses the laboratory database system to accession, print patient reports, and collect quality‑monitoring data.
  • Maintains cytology patient records; generates negative letters and recall notices; assists AP clerical staff as needed.
  • Assists the general supervisor in monitoring section supply usage and cost-saving options.
  • Promotes teamwork, fiscal responsibility, patient‑focused care and leadership as required by the Hospital’s Mission Statement.
  • Interacts with the entire laboratory to fulfill orders, track supplies, manage deliveries, and maintain par levels.

Responsibilities
  • Accessions and prepares all gynecologic and nongynecologic specimens, monitors storage and safe disposal of specimens, segregates specimens that may need additional procedures, and maintains knowledge of safety and compliance guidelines.
  • Monitors and maintains processing and staining equipment, documents activities as required, and maintains cytology slide files.
  • Utilizes the laboratory database system to accession, print patient reports, and collect necessary quality‑monitoring data.
  • Maintains cytology patient records, uses information systems to generate patient negative letters and recall notices, and assists the AP clerical staff as needed.
  • Assists the general supervisor in monitoring section supply usage, utilizes supplies cost‑effectively, and helps pursue cost‑saving options.
  • Promotes the quality attributes of teamwork, fiscal responsibility, accountability, patient‑focused care, flexibility, creativity, and leadership as required by the Hospital’s Mission Statement.
  • Interacts with the entire laboratory (anatomic and clinical) to fulfill orders, track supplies, manage deliveries, and maintain par levels in the stock room.
Qualifications

Education

High School graduate; some college preferred

Experience

Prior experience in a laboratory environment is preferred.

Licensure

None required.

Special Skills

Organized and detail oriented with understanding of basic technical processes; excellent problem‑solving in a timely manner. Responds promptly to client needs and requests.

Physical Demand

Processing requires frequent standing, occasional bending and lifting, and special handling of chemicals using appropriate personal protective equipment.
