Job description

The Agency of Transportation (AOT) is seeking a Traffic Signal Technician. The Traffic Signal Technician is a dynamic and mission critical position that involves installation and maintenance work for AOT, involving traffic signals, beacons, roadway lighting, and other related Intelligent Transportation Systems. The Traffic Signal Team is a fast paced unit that works on assets all over the State to ensure the devices are operating as safe and efficient as possible. This work is performed under the general supervision of the Traffic Signal Superintendent. This position is not eligible for telework, and the position will be on call on a rotating basis.

Class Definition

Electrical and electronic installation and maintenance work at the Agency of Transportation involving traffic signals, beacons, and roadway lighting; electrical maintenance of drawbridge, electrical work. Some supervision over maintenance personnel may be exercised on a project basis. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Traffic Signal Superintendent.

Duties are performed in a variety of field locations, often in an elevated bucket on live power, in all weather conditions with moving highway traffic present. Emergency call out is required. Lifting materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds is required. Working with electricity and on difficult sites creates the need for strict adherence to safety standards to minimize the risk of injury.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years at or above the apprentice level in the installation and maintenance of electrical, electronic equipment, or telecommunications equipment.
OR
Three (3) years as an AOT Electrical Maintenance Specialist I.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices.

Special Requirements

A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire.
