The selected fellow will actively participate in management of patients on the Cardiovascular Surgery Service under the direct supervision of the attending cardiac surgeons. Fellows will gain extensive hands‑on experience and exposure to advanced aortic therapies, including but not limited to: aortic valve repair, valve sparing root replacement, Bentall procedure, Ross procedure, repair of acute and chronic dissection, complex aortic arch reconstruction, open thoracoabdominal aortic repair, and novel endovascular aortic therapies. Our aortic center is at the forefront of new clinical trials and use of cutting‑edge devices. The team performs over 350 thoracic aortic procedures annually; this diverse case mix and position on the forefront of aortic therapies provides an incomparable opportunity to refine surgical skills and be prepared to become an aortic surgeon.
Responsibilities will include management of the postoperative care of the patients. We highly encourage the selected aortic fellow to participate in national aortic conferences and conduct clinical research. The qualified candidate will hold a current, unrestricted or institutional Pennsylvania medical license and have experience in cardiology, cardiac surgery, and/or critical care medicine. The fellow will not maintain an independent surgical practice or perform independent elective cardiovascular surgical procedures without direct supervision by the Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery or his designee.
