Job summary

Phoenix House California is seeking an Alcohol and Drug (AOD) Counselor to support individuals in Residential/Outpatient services. You will coordinate assessments, treatment plans, and discharge planning, while delivering individual counseling and leading groups to promote recovery.

The role requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, documentation accuracy, and adherence to confidentiality laws. Bilingual Spanish is a plus; a DHCS credential is required for AOD Counselor 2.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; and be registered as an Alcohol and Drug (AOD) Counselor recognized by DHCS.
• Minimum of one year of prior experience in a related field.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
• Must maintain a valid credential (if required for your position) during employment.
• TB test clearance and yearly updates required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee coordination of Initial Assessment, Service Authorization, Treatment Plan, and goals with other service plans.
• Provide individual counseling services.
• Facilitate evidence-based treatment groups for assigned cohorts.
• Provide crisis intervention as needed by clients, residents, and families.
• Submit timely documentation (progress notes, assessments, treatment plans, chart notes).
• Maintain records such as progress notes, discharge summaries, and clinical case records.
• Collaborate with referral resources and family members to support clients' recovery.
