Job Description
TITLE: SUPERVISOR OF SCIENCE/TECHNOLOGY/ENGINEERING/ MATHEMATICS (STEM)

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. New Jersey Principal/Supervisor certification.

  • Minimum experience of five (5) years successful teaching, administrative and/or supervision experience.
  • Preferred Math and Science/Technology background or collegiate coursework with teacher certification in this area.
  • Demonstrated leadership in school improvement, program development, and curriculum integration and application of technology across the curriculum.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills with demonstrated initiative, leadership and business professional ethics.
  • Pass mandatory pre-employment physical, including drug screening in accordance with N.J.S.A.18A: 16-2(b)
  • Pass mandatory criminal history screening in accordance with 18A:6-7.1.
  • Consistent attendance as defined by the New Jersey Department of Education.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google and general computer skills.
  • Ability to travel to all buildings throughout the day.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent, Directors, and Principals

SUPERVISES: K-12 instructional staff in mathematics, science and others as assigned.

JOB GOALS: To provide leadership in the development implementation and coordination of the district’s K-12 science, technology, engineering and mathematics curriculum. Oversee the scheduling of district-wide training of staff as the Right to Know Officer and the implementation of the Chemical Hygiene Plan.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with Assistant Superintendent, principals, and teachers in developing the mathematics, science and technology curriculum; and assists in the formulation of a philosophy and objectives for the instructional plan.
  • Schedules and organizes grade level and departmental meetings in the area of mathematics and to ensure horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional program between the schools and any sending districts.
  • Recommends to the Assistant Superintendent the additions of new courses.
  • Studies, evaluates, and as appropriate, recommends to the Assistant Superintendent, the adoption of new instructional materials, methods, and programs.
  • Provides leadership in the development of the K-12 Mathematics and Science Programs, achievement of national and State standards , governing Mathematics and Science curriculum, and district goals and objectives.
  • Serve as district-wide Chemical Lab Hygiene Coordinator implementing and overseeing the Chemical Hygiene Plan.
  • Serve as the District’s Right to Know Officer.
  • Schedule mandatory annual trainings and maintain mandated records as the Right to Know Officer.
  • Assists in the implementation of the district and county in-service education program for the instructional staff and recommends teacher attendance at conferences and participation in other professional growth activities for the subject areas supervised.
  • Participates in the work of State and National curriculum study organizations and groups.
  • Assists with the development of curriculum bulletins, guides or directories to be distributed to the staff, as needed.
  • Provides professional development for staff in the integration of Federal and State standards into the instructional process for the subject areas supervised.
  • Maintains a curriculum reference library use by the staff and collaborates with principals and teachers to develop a common file of community resources to enhance the instructional program.
  • Secures and makes available to the science, technology, engineering and mathematics staff (STEM) staff, samples of various instructional materials, textbooks, and curriculum guides.
  • Assists the Assistant Superintendent with the science, technology, engineering and mathematics textbooks and instructional materials throughout the district using faculty committees.
  • Keeps abreast of and interprets to the staff the current research in the area of curriculum development, teaching and learning.
  • Cooperates with the special services department in planning the instructional program for the special education classes.
  • Meets on a regular basis with all area coordinators and subject area, special area, and guidance counselors for the purpose of maintaining ongoing coordination and implementation of the science, technology, engineering and mathematics curricula.
  • Reviews and approves all school building requests for purchase of instructional materials.
  • Conducts classroom observations and provides supervision/evaluation of teachers, as requested by building principals or central office administrative staff.
  • Assists the building principals and Assistant Superintendent in the development of sections of the budget that pertain to science, technology, engineering and mathematics curriculum and instruction and professional development.
  • Coordinates district participation in community events/meetings, as needed.
  • Responds to inquiries and concerns in a timely fashion.
  • Assists administrators with the screening, selection and training of new personnel related to the areas overseen by the Supervisor of Science & Mathematics.
  • Reviews and evaluates results of district-wide testing programs and for other evaluative measures used by the schools as they relate to the mathematics and science departments.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by Assistant Superintendent, principals and the Superintendent of Schools.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

OF THE JOB: Light Work: May lift, push or pull 25+ pounds.

Ability to travel between buildings as needed.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months plus 20 additional days during the last day of work for teachers and the first day of working for the teachers in the next school year.

EVALUATION

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of certificated administrative staff.

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: $80,000-$95,000
