Job summary

Central York School District seeks an Instructional Assistant to provide instructional support to students and groups under the supervision of a certified professional. Responsibilities include assisting with IEPs, staying on task, re-teaching material, and supporting homework, tests, and classroom projects.

Position involves one-on-one and small group support across subjects, monitoring behavior, and applying learning strategies.

Qualifications

  • Two years of post-secondary study (48 credits) or an Associates Degree or higher.
  • Meet PDE requirements: Special Education Credential or CAPE test with 80%+ and 20 hours/year PD.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification as required by assignments.
  • Must obtain PA Criminal, PA Child Abuse, and FBI Background Checks within 12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and facilitate activities for all in the assigned subject area.
  • Assist students with IEPs to stay focused and on-task, monitor behavior, take notes, re-teach material, and assist with homework and tests.
  • Prepare students with IEPs for quizzes and tests (study sessions, review games).
  • Administer quizzes/tests as per IEP under guidance of classroom and special education teachers.
  • Attend IEP and team meetings as required and become familiar with IEPs of students served.
  • Assist with preparation and setup of learning activities, monitor activities, provide one-on-one assistance and test taking support.
  • Teach learning strategies to individuals and small groups and develop learning activities.
  • Record assessment data for students with special needs.
  • Assist with student supervision in hallways, breakfast, assemblies, and school start/end times.
  • Provide services in community/work environments for learners with disabilities.

Job Summary

Provide instructional support to any and all students, and/or a specific student or group of students as assigned. Instructional Assistants may be used in any classroom situation under the immediate and direct supervision of a certified professional to perform those tasks specified in the duties and responsibilities of this job description. The design, direction and evaluation of the teaching/learning process must be done by a professional employee. The Instructional Assistant is under the supervision of the certified professional in charge of the assignment and to the Building Principal. The Instructional Assistant may monitor student behavior through report, but cannot be directly involved in disciplinary procedures. The Instructional Assistant will be evaluated by the certified professional in charge of the specific assignment and the Building Principal.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

These duties and responsibilities will vary depending on the building and grade to which the position is assigned, and whether the position supports an entire classroom, a small group of students, or provides one‑on‑one assistance to a student.

  • Provide and facilitate activities for all in the assigned subject area.
  • Assist students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to stay focused and on‑task, monitor and report behavior problems, take notes on material being instructed, re‑teach/teach material, and assist with completion of homework, tasks, classroom projects, and use of technology/computer.
  • Prepare students with IEPs for quizzes and tests (study sessions, review games).
  • Administer quizzes/tests as per IEP under guidance of classroom teacher and special education teacher.
  • Attend and participate in IEP and team meetings, when required, and become familiar with IEPs of students served under the direction of the special education teacher.
  • Assist with preparation and set‑up of learning activities, monitor students’ activities, provide one‑on‑one assistance with learning activities and test taking in class and through tutoring, data collection, grade assignments and tests.
  • Teach learning strategies to individuals and small groups in one or more subject areas. Develop and implement learning activities (flashcards, worksheets, etc.).
  • Record assessment data for students with special needs.
  • Assist with student supervision in hallways, at breakfast, during assemblies, and at the beginning and end of school day.
  • Provide services in the community/work environment for learners with disabilities.
Qualifications
  • Complete at least two (2) years of post‑secondary study (48 credits) or possess an Associates Degree or higher.
  • Meet a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through a state or local assessment. Central York School District recognizes two local assessments to assist paraprofessionals in attaining the PDE requirements:
    • The Special Education Credential of Competency (free of charge; provided by CYSD) or the CAPE test (must receive a passing score of 80% or higher)
    • Maintain 20 hours per year of professional development related to the identified position
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification based on assignments.
  • Must have obtained (or will obtain) valid PA Criminal, PA Child Abuse, and FBI Criminal History Background Checks within the last twelve (12) months.
Hourly Rate

$15.95 – $20.70. Step placement shall be based on years of service recognized by employer.
