Job summary

The Special Education District of Lake County (SEDOL) invites applications for an Early Childhood Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This cross-categorical, language-based program serves children ages 3–5 in a highly structured setting with small groups and therapy services integrated into daily activities.

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's Degree and a Professional Educator License (PEL) - LBS I.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required for teaching certification.
• Professional Educator License (PEL) - LBS I required/preferred.
• Experience with early childhood special education is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate and prepare activities for a small group (3–5) of children.
• Deliver academics and therapies in groups and individually as needed.

This program is a cross-categorical, language-based program for children ages 3 – 5. The small group setting (between 6 – 8 children) has morning and afternoon sessions and is 2 ½ hours per day. An Early Childhood teacher facilitates and prepares activities for the class. Academics and therapies (speech/language, occupational therapy, physical therapy, social work, etc.) are delivered in small and large group situations. Activities are presented through play utilizing a developmentally appropriate curriculum.

Description

The Special Education District of Lake County has one opening for an Early Childhood Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. LASSO is a program for students in early childhood who exhibit characteristics generally associated with autism spectrum disorders and require a highly structured, specialized program to meet individual needs in the areas of communication, social skills, sensory needs, functional academics, and self help skills.
