Job summary

Oradell Public School District is seeking an attentive Custodian for the second shift (3:00 PM - 11:30 PM) to help keep school facilities clean and safe. This role involves cleaning bathrooms, floors, windows, and grounds, plus basic maintenance tasks and snow/ice removal as needed.

The position requires the ability to follow written or verbal work orders, coordinate with the team, and report any equipment issues to the supervisor.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of fundamental tools and practices in carpentry, plumbing, and electrical trades.
• Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor and coordinate work with others.
• Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form.
• Ability to describe orally or in writing maintenance or repair problems as needed.

Responsibilities

• Performs tasks to keep school buildings and grounds in orderly, neat, and clean condition (trash disposal, bathrooms, floors, windows, dusting).
• Performs minor repairs to property and maintains buildings in safe, operable condition (snow/ice removal, basic repairs).
• Opens and closes building and ensures doors/windows are secured before leaving.
• Inspects equipment and facilities and advises supervisor on repair or replacement actions.
• Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Essential Job Functions

• Performs tasks to keep school buildings andgrounds in orderly, neat, and clean condition such as clearing/disposing of trash, cleaning bathrooms and floors, washing windows, dusting furniture and fixtures, mowing grass, and related tasks.
• Performs tasks to maintain buildings and grounds in safe and operable condition, such as making minor repairs to property as requested, clearing snow and ice, and related tasks.
• Opens and closes building and ensures that all doors and windows are closed and securely locked prior to leaving.
• Inspects equipment and facilities, and recommends repair or replacement action to supervisor.
• Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.
