Eastern Lancaster County School District in New Holland, Pennsylvania seeks a part-time Anticipated Co-Unified Indoor Bocce Head Coach to oversee the after-school Unified Indoor Bocce program at the high school. The role includes recruiting eligible students, collecting paperwork, and coordinating with Special Olympics PA and the athletic director.

The coach will develop practice plans, manage competition strategies, and ensure inclusive participation.

Responsabilités

• Oversee the administration of the high school’s after school Interscholastic Unified Indoor Bocce program. A Unified Indoor Bocce team includes Special Olympics-eligible students and students without disabilities.
• Follow roster requirements and rules for participation; recruit the appropriate mix of Special Olympics-eligible students and non-disabled students; collect all required paperwork (physical exam, health history, parental consents).
• Liaison regularly with Special Olympics Pennsylvania staff and the high school athletic director to ensure quality program standards are met and comply with all rules and policies.
• Practices begin with the PIAA winter season in late November; season runs through the first week of March; minimum two after school practices weekly and four to six competitions; follow protocols if advancing to Regional/State Championships.
• Attend the Unified Sports Indoor Bocce Coaches’ Training in your county and complete required online Special Olympics courses.
• Develop and implement practice plans providing bocce skills and tactical instruction to all participants; manage competition strategies at Unified Indoor Bocce matches.
• Promote inclusive sport experience by following Unified Sports principles and social inclusion outcomes.
• Work with the high school athletic director to plan and provide support for home Unified Indoor Bocce matches; recruit volunteers to act as officials and scorekeepers and follow Special Olympics PA protocols.

Role and Responsibilities

• Oversee the administration of the high school’s after school Interscholastic Unified Indoor Bocce program. A Unified Indoor Bocce team is composed of a proportional number of students who are Special Olympics-eligible (defined as students with an intellectual disability or developmental disability, including autism with a cognitive delay) and students without intellectual disabilities.

• Follow the roster requirements and rules for participation on a Unified Indoor Bocce team, recruit the appropriate number of students who are Special Olympics-eligible and students without intellectual disabilities. Collect all required paperwork (physical exam, health history, and parental consents).

• Liaison regularly with Special Olympics Pennsylvania staff and the high school athletic director to ensure quality program standards are being met. Comply with and follow all rules and policies of the Special Olympics PA Interscholastic Unified Indoor Bocce program.

• Practices begin with the start of the PIAA winter sports season in late November. The season runs through the first week of March. There are a minimum of two after school practices a week and four to six competitions throughout the season. If the team advances to the Regional and State Championships, follow all protocols.

• Attend the free and required Unified Sports® Indoor Bocce Coaches’ Training in your county. Complete the required free online Special Olympics coaches’ courses.

• Develop and implement practice plans in which bocce skills and tactical instruction are provided to all participants. Manage competition strategies at Unified Indoor Bocce matches.

• Impart the philosophy of a positive inclusive sports experience by following the principles of Unified Sports® and promoting social inclusion outcomes.

• Responsible for working with the high school’s athletic director to plan and provide proper support for any home Unified Indoor Bocce matches. This includes recruitment of trained volunteers to serve as officials and scorekeepers, and following the competition management protocols provided by Special Olympics PA.
