Job summary

Southern Company Services is seeking an Ansible Automation Platform Engineer in Birmingham, AL, to administer the Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) and related automation technologies. The role focuses on reliability, security, scalability, and continuous improvement of the enterprise automation platform.

You will manage controllers, execution environments, content, credentials, and integrations; monitor health, performance, and capacity; and collaborate with teams to onboard automation use

Qualifications

• BS/BA in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• Experience administering or supporting Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) and related automation technologies.
• Understanding of container orchestration, deployment lifecycles, and platform services.
• Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code, Git-based workflows, and automation best practices.
• Basic knowledge of security controls, privileged access management, secrets management, and compliance requirements.
• Strong communication and influence skills to encourage automation adoption.
• General knowledge of Southern Company's core business.

Responsibilities

• Administer, configure, and maintain the Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) for a secure, scalable service.
• Manage platform components including controllers, execution environments, and integrations.
• Monitor health, performance, availability, and capacity of the platform.
• Troubleshoot platform, workflow, integration, authentication, networking, and deployment issues.
• Perform lifecycle management: upgrades, patches, configuration changes, testing.
• Collaborate with teams to onboard use cases and integrate technologies with the platform.
• Develop and support reusable automation content, templates, and standards.
• Maintain RBAC, credential management, secrets integration, and security controls.
• Support source control, CI/CD pipelines, and Git workflows for automation solutions.
• Respond to incidents within SLAs and participate in on-call rotations.
• Develop platform documentation, diagrams, and operational procedures.
• Plan capacity and provide recommendations for growth and optimization.
• Provide governance and best practices for automation standards.
