Job Description
Samuel Merritt University’s Master of Social Work (MSW) program is seeking qualified candidates for a faculty position at the level of assistant, associate, or full professor, starting in Fall 2024 or Spring 2025. This 12-month position involves teaching, research, and service within our MSW program, which emphasizes health and behavioral health. The position reports directly to the MSW Department Chair.
Responsibilities
- Teaching: Develop and deliver courses in the MSW program, including in-person weekend classes and online evening classes during fall, spring, and summer semesters.
- Advising and Mentoring: Provide academic and career guidance to students, supervise research projects, internships, and professional development activities.
- Curriculum Development and Accreditation: Contribute to curriculum development, program assessment, and accreditation reports, ensuring compliance with standards.
- Research: Conduct and publish research related to health and behavioral health, collaborate with colleagues, supervise students, and seek external funding.
- Community Engagement: Build community partnerships, lead initiatives addressing health disparities, and promote wellness and access to behavioral health services.
- University Service: Participate in departmental, college, and university committees as needed.
Qualifications
- MSW from an accredited institution; qualified for faculty rank of assistant, associate, or full professor.
- Ability to teach graduate courses in synchronous and asynchronous formats, with some telecommuting permitted.
- Strong commitment to social justice, diversity, and inclusion; expertise in areas such as health, behavioral health, medical social work, gerontology, or social determinants of health preferred.
- Doctoral degree in Social Work or related field from a CSWE-accredited program (ABD considered if completed by start date).
- Minimum of two years post-MSW practice experience.
- Experience in higher education teaching.
- Licensed or license-eligible in California.
- Familiarity with health agencies and licensure procedures in California; experience with curriculum development and accreditation is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Significant time spent teaching, using computers, and advising students.
- May require travel between campuses and attendance at conferences or training sessions.

Status: Regular, Exempt, Part-time
Salary Range: $81,000 - $108,000 annually
