Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium has a hiring preference for qualified Alaska Native and American Indian applicants pursuant to P.L. 93-638 Indian Self Determination Act.

Summary

Under limited supervision, performs clinical pharmaceutical care for patients in collaboration with other pharmacists, physicians, other healthcare providers and patients in an accurate and timely manner.

Responsibilities

Provides patient counseling, drug information, drug therapy consultation, and staff education.

Reviews patient profile and clinical status, labs, dosing intervals, and drug therapy combinations to assure safe and effective medication use.

Consults with healthcare providers on therapy recommendations as appropriate.

Educates patients regarding the proper use of medication and what side effects to expect.

Conducts medication dispensing, compounding, order entry, and verification of all pharmaceutical activities.

Repackages and distributes prescriptions; performs compounding of IV, topical, and oral medications in an accurate and timely manner.

Documents patient and procedural information.

Follows proper billing procedures.

Reviews and authorizes pharmacy technician activities.

Responsible for any delegated act performed by pharmacy technicians.

Participates on various committees.

Ensures compliance with the regulatory and practice standards of pharmaceutical care.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

A Doctorate degree in Pharmacy (BS for candidates who were licensed under the BS License requirement) from an accredited college program.

Minimum Experience Qualification

Pharmacist I

Required

Non-supervisory – Entry level, no experience is required.

MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION

Pharmacist I, II, III, IV

  • Certification Current State of Alaska Pharmacy License or legal equivalent.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support is required for Inpatient Pharmacists (on-site only) OR able to obtain within 4-month period after hire date.

Preferred Experience Qualification

Inpatient Pharmacist I-IV

  • Inpatient preferred experience- residency or 3 years of equivalent clinical experience.

Preferred Certification Qualification

  • Board certification or an advanced degree.

Additional Requirements

All

  • If exposure to hazardous materials and medications, sharp objects, and infectious diseases is present, must don appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Must operate within department’s appropriate engineering controls such as negative pressure storage rooms and compounding hoods.
