Job Title: Animal Welfare Director

Reporting to: Live Pork EHS Director

Department/Location: Remote Employee.

Salary Class: Salaried

The candidate should reside in Missouri, Illinois, Arkansas, or Iowa geographical region or be willing to relocate.

JBS Live Pork is looking for a talented Animal Welfare Director. The Animal Welfare Directorwill lead a team of 3-4 JBS Live Pork Animal Welfare Managers and serve as the primary point of contact for all animal welfare activities.

A successful candidate will be able to work independently and maintain objective judgment. They will also need to be able to work with various stakeholder groups, including but not limited to Farm Managers, Production Managers, Field Managers, Contract Growers, Transporters, and processing plant personnel, to collaborate and provide feedback.

  • Conduct and provide feedback on internal animal welfare and transportation audits (20%)
  • Deliver hands on training to Field Managers, contract growers, and live haul drivers (30%)
  • Coordinate and attend 3rd party audits (10%)
  • Assist with record keeping, reporting and development of internal programs and materials (10%)
  • Serve as a resource to internal and external stakeholders (10%)
  • Manage the Pork Quality Assurance programs including site assessments and PQA training. (10%)

Required Qualifications:
  • Must be able to become PAACO and Pork Quality Assurance Advisor Certified.
  • PAACO Certification Requirements:
  • B.S or higher with 5 years relevant livestock experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to handle conflict
  • Comfortable in training situations
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual: English-Spanish strongly preferred
  • Previous Managment experince leading a team.
Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to work safely in a physically demanding, live production environment including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, load/move weaned to finish size hogs, walk through pens of animals, etc.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of working conditions including but not limited to extreme heat during summer months and extreme cold in winter months.
  • Must be able to work in an environment in which you will be exposed to odors, dusts and gasses that may be uncomfortable or hazardous if proper procedures are not followed
  • Be willing to be on call 365 days a year, 24 hours per day, excluding vacation.
