City of Rocky Mount Animal Shelter is seeking a part-time Animal Care Assistant to help with daily shelter operations, including feeding, cleaning, and caring for animals. You will support public interactions around pet adoptions and claims, under supervision.

This position is responsible for assisting with the overall care of all animals within the shelter. The responsibilities will vary based on the current needs of the shelter. This position will work under the supervision of the Animal Services Supervisor in a part-time capacity.
The Animal Control Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the results.
Guidelines include North Carolina General Statutes; department rules and regulations; City policies and procedures; local, state, and federal animal control laws; and guidelines regarding the euthanizing of animals. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
The work consists of related animal control ordinance enforcement duties. Inclement weather conditions, dangerous animals, and dissatisfied citizens contribute to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to enforce animal control ordinances. Success in this position contributes to health and safety of area citizens and animals.
Contacts are typically with other City staff; veterinarians; human societies; community groups; animal rescue organizations; and members of the general public.
Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
The work is typically performed in an office, an animal shelter, and outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, cold or inclement weather, and potentially dangerous animals. The work requires the use of protective devices such as mask, goggles, or gloves.
