Job summary

Mesa County's Animal Services is seeking an Animal Services Technician to support the shelter and field operations. You will assist with public inquiries, help with adoptions and transfers, and ensure regulatory compliance across the facility.

Major duties include data entry, facility maintenance, animal handling, and coordinating with officers on enforcement and safety. Shift work and on-call duties may apply.

Qualifications

  • Minimum education: high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in animal control, sheltering, customer service preferred.
  • Ability to work with animals and public in a professional manner.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with requests to ensure compliance with Colorado and Mesa County animal regulations.
  • Maintain data records, cashiering, filing, and answering telephones.
  • Adopt, redeem or release animals and assist with shelter operations.
  • Perform humane euthanasia per training protocols and monitor animal health.

$22.29 - $25.07_____________________________________________________________Performs the duties of all areas of the Animal Services operation within the Animal Services ShelterFacility.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:(The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not includeother non-essential or marginal duties that may be required. Mesa County reserves the right to modifyor change the duties or essential functions of this job at any time. All responsibilities may not beperformed by all incumbents.)Assist with requests for assistance necessary to insure compliance with Colorado and Mesa Countyanimal regulations and laws.May include observation and documentation of evidence to assist Animal Services Officers as necessaryto address illegal activities regarding animal control, public health and public safety.Performs duties to include the collection, entry, management and auditing of data, cashiering, filing,dispatching, answering telephones, assisting the public, maintenance and cleaning of the facility or asassigned by the Animal Services Manager.May investigate reports of possible disease transmission among animals or animals to humans andinitiate necessary actions within the Animal Services Facility.May investigate, providing proper documentation, to testify in court for citations written and issued.Performs humane euthanasia according to established training protocols.Assists and advises the public as they adopt, redeem, and/or release animals. Completes necessarypaperwork. Helps citizens' problem solve animal control issues and complaints in a proactive, professionalfashion.Includes frequent handling, moving, and transporting of animals, behavioral and physical assessment ofanimals and oversight of adoption, transfer and foster programs. Provides direct monitoring of the impoundstatus and maintains the body condition of the animals held at the Animal Services Facility.Completes janitorial and light maintenance within the building and on the grounds of Animal Services;monitors and requisitions animal/janitorial supplies used with the center.Cleans and sanitizes animal holding areas and facility areas on a daily or as needed basis. Feed, water,and provide ongoing evaluations of animal health according to their needs.Provides preventative maintenance as required.May oversee volunteer, community service individuals.May include serving as public relations person to educate the community regarding Animal Servicesfunctions and importance of being responsible pet owners. This could include education in schools andcommunity organizations, public events and television programs as assigned by the Animal ServicesManager.Present Humane Education class as assigned by Animal Services ManagerPrepare, package, label, and transport rabies testing samples as assigned by Animal Services ManagerOral and written communications must be clear and effective.Works as a member of a team of professionals that fosters a safe and positive environment. Performsother related duties as assigned by the Animal Services Manager.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:Must be 18 years of ageEducation and Experience:High school diploma or equivalent. Training and / or experience in animal control, animal sheltering,customer service or other experience working with animals preferred.Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilitiesrequired for the job.Licenses and Certifications:Active Colorado Driver's LicensePHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 100 pounds. Mustbe able to capture and control a wide variety of different animals if required in the facility.Work is often in a standard office environment, but also includes driving, walking in the community in anytype of weather conditions.Noise level is generally moderate, however can experience short-term, high decibel levels requiringHearing protection.
