Job summary

Battelle seeks an Animal Laboratory Technician to support toxicology and chemistry laboratory activities in its Biomedical Research Center in Columbus, Ohio. You will work with animal research models to evaluate medical countermeasures for toxic materials and infectious agents, while upholding strict safety and accuracy standards.

The role requires lifting up to 50 lbs, working in BSL-2/BSL-3 facilities, wearing respirators, and complying with extensive SOPs and background checks.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher in biology, animal science, or a related life science field; OR a high school diploma with a minimum of 2 years of equivalent laboratory experience.
• Demonstrated technical knowledge sufficient to perform routine assignments, operate basic equipment, follow standard procedures, and perform routine data analysis.
• High degree of manual dexterity and the ability to work while wearing a respirator.
• Ability to frequently bend and stoop; must be able to lift 50 lbs. to waist level and 25 lbs. to shoulder level; must be able to remain on feet for the majority of the work shift.
• Must be willing to work in a Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) and/or Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) biocontainment environment and wear appropriate respiratory protection.
• Must be willing to be immunized with FDA-licensed vaccines and Investigational New Drugs (INDs) recommended for individuals at occupational risk of exposure to biological agents.
• Ability to obtain and maintain enrollment in applicable personnel reliability programs (NACLC); enrollment requires the ability to pass commercial and/or federal background investigations.
• Ability to obtain and maintain DoJ Security Risk Assessment (SRA) approval and CDC approval to work with BSAT material.
• Must be willing to participate in random drug screening.
• Must be willing to work weekends, overtime, and holidays as needed; this position follows a schedule of five 8-hour workdays with two consecutive weekday off days.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.

• Assisting in the disposal and removal of waste from the facility.
• Maintaining excellent attendance and punctuality across all assigned projects.

Job Summary

We are currently seeking an Animal Laboratory Technician. This position is a full‑time opportunity located in Columbus, Ohio.

Battelle’s Biomedical Research Center is home to over 200 scientific staff with expertise spanning aerobiology, safety toxicology, pathology, microbiology, and chemistry. Our team works collaboratively to develop and test novel drugs and medical countermeasures from discovery through FDA approval. The facility includes high‑containment environments – a highly toxic material test facility and Biosafety Level 1, 2, and 3 laboratories.

In this role, the selected individual will support toxicology and chemistry laboratory activities evaluating medical countermeasures for highly toxic materials and infectious organisms using animal research models. Consistently maintaining high levels of safety and accuracy is paramount at all times.

Compensation Data

Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $32,300 – $43,600 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate’s salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
