Job summary

UC Irvine's University Laboratory Animal Resources (ULAR) seeks a hands-on technician to maintain animal facilities. You'll load, wash, and prepare hundreds of cages, assist with sterilization, bedding, and feeding, and transport supplies to housing rooms.

Applicants should have a High School diploma, at least 1 year of related experience, a valid CA driver's license, and be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Weekend rotation may be required.

Qualifications

• High School or GED degree.
• At least 1 year of recent experience in environments with loading/unloading heavy items or sanitation.
• Valid California driver’s license to pick up/deliver items around Irvine campus.
• Ability to lift, push, pull and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to read, write and understand English to follow instructions and SOPs.

Responsibilities

• Load cage racks with 144+ animal cages and push through tunnel washers.
• Sterilize cages via autoclave, load/unload as required.
• Prepare cages with bedding and feed; load onto bulk trucks for housing rooms.
• Move animal feed and bedding; each bag weighs 50 pounds.
• Perform cleaning and minor repairs of cage enclosures and equipment.
