Job summary

SoBran-Inc is seeking an Animal Facility Manager for our Norfolk, VA location. The role involves ensuring SOPs and QA standards are followed, supporting operational management, and training staff across facility operations.

Qualified candidates will have experience with rodent facilities, barrier management, Non-Human Primate care, hazard containment, and data management, plus LATG or equivalent training. 401k, health benefits, and paid time off are offered.

Responsibilities

• Follow SOPs and QA standards. Aids in writing needed SOPs.
• Assist Project/Program Manager with operational management support.
• Ensure staff are trained and proficient with SOPs and policies.
• Maintain familiarity with day-to-day activities, personnel needs, and facility issues.
• Distribute reports to SoBran staff, PI staff and institutional personnel.
• Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with investigators and maintenance personnel to coordinate activities.
• Assist in personnel matters in collaboration with supervisory staff, including annual reviews and disciplinary issues.
• Assist with interviewing and selection of SoBran personnel.
• Responsible for ordering food and other supplies for the facility.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs; bend, stoop, climb and stand for prolonged periods.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.

Job description

SoBran is looking for an Animal Facility Manager for our Norfolk, VA location.

Job Responsibilities: (but not limited to)

• Understands and follows all SOPs and Quality Assurance Standards. Aids in writing needed SOPs.
• Responsible for assisting Project/Program Manager with operational management support.
• Ensures that staff assigned to each position are trained and proficient with SOPs, policies and guidelines associated with their position.
• Expectation of familiarity with day-to-day activities, personnel needs, and facility issues
• Must have experience working with multiple animal species to include nonhuman primates.
• Must possess strong verbal communication, teaching skills and be knowledgeable of veterinary medical terminology and animal facility operations.
• Maintain an effective level of communication with the Project/Program Manager
• Distributes reports as needed to SoBran staff, PI staff and institutional personnel.
• Assists in developing and maintaining relationships with investigators, their staff, maintenance personnel and SoBran personnel to coordinate activities.

Requirements

• Must have experience with husbandry and technical support of rodent facilities, barrier management, Non-Human Primate care, hazard containment, technical proficiency and data management.
• Must have knowledge and understanding for industry specific workplace safety and accident prevention techniques.

Preferred: A.A. in Veterinary Technology or B.S. in Biology, Animal Science, or related discipline and LATG level or equivalent training or experience and have 4 years' experience in a laboratory animal facility.
