Job summary

The City of Livingston (CA) is seeking a part-time Animal Control Officer to enforce state laws and local ordinances related to animal care, zoning, and public safety within the city. You will respond to complaints, investigate cruelty cases, impound animals, and testify in court as required.

Responsibilities include handling licensing, collaborating with animal shelters, and providing public information on compliance with regulations.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent GED supplemented by college-level coursework related to animal health, public enforcement, municipal code enforcement, or other related field.
• Two years’ experience handling and caring for animals and/or working in the public sector enforcing and investigating violations of state and local laws and ordinances.
• Valid California Class C driver’s license.
• Valid and appropriate law enforcement and/or animal control certification including P.O.S.T 832 PC.
• Completion of Animal Control Academy (NACA).

Responsibilities

• Enforce State laws and local ordinances related to animal regulation, patrol assigned areas, and impound animals.
• Investigate complaints and conduct land use/ zoning enforcement investigations.
• Respond to public inquiries about animal control, investigate cruelty and neglect cases, and issue citations.
• Assist public with compliance procedures and explain applicable laws and regulations.
• Collaborate with animal rescue organizations and shelters to place unclaimed or injured pets.
