Job summary

Alexandria is seeking an Animal Control Officer to lead the enforcement of city animal control ordinances, including diseased, unlicensed, dangerous, and stray animals. The role oversees staff, coordinates daily tasks, and assists with training.

The officer captures unlicensed and stray animals, investigates cruelty and violations, and testifies in court. Welfare duties include rounds, medications, and humane euthanasia as required; a valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise staff, direct work, and appraise performance.

• Investigate cruelty/violations and testify in court when needed.
• Care for animals in shelter: rounds, reports, and medications.
• Maintain paperwork: impoundment tickets, records, and reports.
• Assist public with adoptions and process papers.
• Assist with educational programs for the public.
