Job summary

Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County is seeking a Field Animal Services Officer to protect public health and welfare by enforcing animal control ordinances and state law. You will respond to calls, capture and transport animals, investigate cruelty and neglect, and testify in court as needed.

In addition to field enforcement, you will support shelter operations, supervise inmate or community service workers, and maintain required records.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; one year of experience around animals.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and Certificates as required (Euthanasia or ability to obtain).
• Security training for inmate supervision within six months.

Responsibilities

• Enforces ACC Code Chapter 4 and state law regarding animal care, licensing and rabies control.
• Responds to public calls and captures stray, injured, or dangerous animals.
• Transports animals to shelter or clinics and assists in shelter operations.
• Supervises inmate or community service workers and maintains records.
• Educates residents on responsible pet ownership and local ordinances.
