Animal Control Officer II-(Posting# 611021-2941)

Description:

This position performs work in the enforcement of local and state laws and ordinances regulating the keeping, control, and protection of animals within the county; investigates/prepares animal cruelty cases for court and testify as needed; enforces animal control state statutes and euthanasia of animals as needed; investigates and answers citizens' requests relating to animals; issues warning notices and citations; captures animals using specialized animal capture equipment and techniques; participates in the rabies program and will assist with scheduled clinics; operates and maintains county animal shelter; completes documentation, records, files, and reports; and performs related tasks as required. The work schedule requires rotation of on-call weekend duty to cover emergencies and to maintain the animal shelter.

Requirements:

Graduation from high school with two years of law enforcement experience including one year as an animal control officer; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Requirements include a driver's license valid in the State of N.C.; Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provision of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training & Standards Council or deputized or other certification granted by local ordinance as appropriate. All health department employees (with the exception of individuals with an accommodation or medical exemption) are required to get an annual flu shot vaccine as part of condition of employment.

Compensation:

The hiring range for this position is $ 43,139 - $48,240. Halifax County provides a comprehensive employee benefits package, including membership in the N.C. Local Government Employees' Retirement System.

Signing and Retention Bonus:

A non-refundable signing bonus in the amount of $3,750 will be paid in the selected applicant's first paycheck following employment and execution of the Employment Signing and Retention Bonus Agreement.

A retention bonus in the amount of $3,750 will be paid in the selected applicant's next paycheck following the completion of 12 full months of employment in the same position with the County following the date of payment of the signing bonus.
