Job summary

Catoosa County is seeking a dedicated Animal Shelter Support role to help maintain clean kennels, feed and care for shelter animals, and support intake/outtake operations. You will work under the Animal Control Director to ensure a safe, healthy environment.

Responsibilities include cleaning, disinfecting, reporting health concerns, and assisting with animal exercise. HS diploma preferred with relevant experience; valid driver's license required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • More than two years of related experience preferred.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia.

Responsibilities

  • Observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, signs of illness, disease, and discontent.
  • Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, and launder towels and bedding as needed.
  • Bring animals to and from the kennel during intake or out-take.
  • Ensure all animals are clean and smell fresh.
  • Report signs of illness, disease, injury, or unusual activity to Director.
  • Provide adequate food and water; wash and sterilize water and food bowls as needed.
  • Maintain kennel area, office spaces, and outbuildings; organize equipment and materials, sweep/mop floors, take out trash, dust, and do laundry.
  • Maintain equipment used to complete job assignments and report repairs needed.
  • Assist with providing exercise for animals in care of the facility.
  • Assist with kennel maintenance to include minor repairs and painting.
  • Other duties deemed necessary for efficient operation of the Animal Shelter.

Job Summary: This position, under the direction of the Animal Control Director, provides for the constant cleanliness of cages, runs and shelter areas and the proper feeding and care of all shelter animals.

Job Duties:

  • Observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness, disease, and discontent
  • Cleans and disinfects animal kennels, cages, and launder towels and bedding as deemed necessary
  • Bring animals to and from the kennel during intake or out-take
  • Ensure all animals are clean and smell fresh
  • Report signs of illness, disease, injury, or unusual activity to Director
  • Make sure animals have adequate food and water; wash and sterilize water and food bowls as necessary
  • Maintain kennel area, office spaces, and outbuildings by performing tasks including, but not limited to, organizing equipment and materials, sweeping/mopping floors, taking out trash, dusting, and doing laundry
  • Maintains equipment used to complete job assignments and report any repairs needed to the Animal Control Director
  • Assists with providing exercise for the animals in the care of the facility
  • Assists with kennel maintenance to include minor repairs and painting
  • Other duties deemed necessary for the efficient operation of the Animal Shelter

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • More than two years of related experience preferred
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Federal, State, standard operating procedures, and county ordinances related to animal control and care
  • Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting the kernel area and which chemicals to use
  • Knowledge of Animal Control, Animal Services, and care of animals
  • Skill in interpersonal relations
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Ability to work as part of a team
