Job summary

The City of Laredo is seeking an Animal Control Officer to protect public health by investigating animal or vector exposures, patrolling for unlicensed or stray animals, and enforcing local ordinances. The role requires maintaining accurate records and collaborating with local authorities.

Responsibilities include conducting vaccination events, assisting veterinarians, and handling dog licenses while ensuring compliance with City codes. The position is full-time and on-site with benefits.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
• At least two years of general work experience; able to work with animals, be dependable and ethical.
• Valid Texas Driver License and good driving record.
• Desirable: Basic Animal Control Certification and Euthanasia Certification within specified timelines.

Responsibilities

• Takes reports and conducts investigations of animal or vector exposure seven days per week on rotating shift.
• Patrols area by driving to locate, identify, capture, transport, and impound animals.
• Maintains records of animal captures, detentions and quarantines.
• Enforces city ordinances to prevent rabies outbreaks and issues citations.
• Responds to public calls regarding animals affecting daily life and investigates complaints.
