Job summary

The City of Lubbock seeks an Animal Control Officer to enforce state laws and city ordinances related to humane care of animals. Responsibilities include responding to incidents, patrolling for stray animals, trapping, and handling evidence and reporting.

Requirements include a high school diploma (or equivalent) with additional public contact experience, and certifications as Basic Animal Control Officer and Euthanasia Technician within the department’s timeframe.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with additional one year of public contact experience or equivalent.
  • Must obtain Basic Animal Control Officer certification within the timeframe set by the department.
  • Must obtain Certified Euthanasia Technician certification recognized by the Texas Department of State Health Services within the timeframe set by the department.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Physical Exam required.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates violations of state laws and city ordinances related to animals.
  • Issue citations and warnings; may authorize search warrants and testify in court.
  • Patrols for loose or stray animals and removes them from neighborhoods.
  • Baits, sets, and monitors traps for animals.
  • Operates and maintains animal control equipment and vehicle.
  • Perform administrative tasks: write reports, collect evidence, maintain case records.
