Job summary

Northwestern University is seeking an Animal Caretaker for the Center for Comparative Medicine. The role involves routine animal care, cage wash duties, and adherence to CCM SOPs and safety guidelines. Qualifications

• Minimum 3 months cage wash, husbandry or equivalent experience or education.
• High school diploma or its equivalent is preferred.
• Valid state driver’s license if driving animal transport van is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Changes cages, equipment, supplies, animals & rooms according to CCM SOPs.
• Feeds & waters animals according to prescribed diets.
• Observes animals daily and reports variances or health issues.
• Observes and reports changes in environmental parameters; may conduct census counts.
• May administer oral or topical medications.
• With training, may euthanize animals per CCM SOPs and IACUC policies.
• Assists in organizing feed, bedding and dry supplies in storage facilities.
• Cleans and sterilizes cages, equipment, supplies, and rooms; prepares refused for disposal.
