Job description

Summary:

Perform a variety of tasks related to the care of all Animal Science Centers laboratory animals and the maintenance of the animal facilities. Some of those species being mice, rats, zebrafish, zebra finches, and more. Technicians can be rotated across facilities and at times assigned specifically to facilities needing coverage.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide feed and water, and basic husbandry care
  • Cleans and sanitizes cages according to prescribed standards
  • Observes animals daily to assess health, environmental conditions, and social environment
  • Maintains accurate and up to date cage cards, animal histories, and other records as required
  • Receive and house newly arrived animals from approved vendors according to established procedures
  • Maintain housing rooms, storage areas, and procedure rooms daily including sweeping and mopping floors; sanitizing equipment
  • Practices safety, environmental, and biosecurity control methods
  • Completing duties as assigned in both ABSL-1 and ABSL-2 facilities
