Actalent is hiring an Laboratory Animal Care Technician in Stilwell, KS to provide humane care and routine husbandry for laboratory animals. You will support veterinary staff, maintain clean facilities, and assist with animal health programs.

The role requires adherence to SOPs and regulatory guidelines while working a schedule that includes weekends and holidays. Responsibilities include feeding, monitoring, record-keeping, and safe handling, with opportunities to grow within an animal

Qualifications

• Experience in animal science, veterinary hospital settings, or animal research is beneficial.
• Experience with animal breeding and husbandry practices is an advantage.
• Comfort working with cleaning and washing equipment, including cage and glassware washers.
• Strong organizational skills and a detail-oriented approach to maintaining study support areas and procedure rooms.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a small animal care team and contribute to a supportive, growth-oriented environment.
• Interest in developing skills and advancing within an animal care or research-focused career, with room for growth in responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide humane care and treatment for all species housed within the animal care unit, following established standards and guidelines.
• Perform routine animal husbandry, including feeding, watering, and cleaning cages and rooms to maintain a safe, sanitary environment.
• Receive incoming animals, verify proper identification, and place animals in appropriate housing according to protocols.
• Handle animals safely and confidently, including animal identification and randomization for research studies.
• Assist with the operation and basic maintenance of equipment such as cage and glassware washers, scales, and balances.
• Maintain accurate and complete records in compliance with SOPs and relevant regulations and guidelines, including USDA, FDA, and AAALAC International.
• Keep study support areas and procedure rooms clean, organized, stocked, and ready for use by veterinary and research staff.
• Assist the clinical veterinarian with physical examinations, treatments, and ongoing animal health programs.
• Support research studies as needed, which may include performing various animal dosing techniques under appropriate supervision.
• Work weekend, holiday, and after-hours shifts on a rotational basis to ensure continuous animal care coverage.
• Adhere to all facility policies, safety procedures, and biosecurity practices while working with animals and equipment.
• Collaborate effectively with the animal care team and research staff to support high-quality animal care and study outcomes.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Stilwell, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
