Position Overview

The Operations Leader - Animal Care promotes and ensures the efficient operation of the Companion Animal Department, driving sales of aquatic pets, reptiles, birds, and small animals. This role involves coaching and mentoring Pet Care Center partners to enhance guest experience and animal care, managing training, supporting scheduling, and leading a high-performing team to meet sales, margin, and animal health targets. The leader will also oversee all aspects of the Pet Care Center's operations in line with Petco standards and safety procedures.

Position Responsibilities
  • Utilize business acumen to analyze trends and implement improvement plans.
  • Ensure the health and well-being of live animals following Petco standards and policies.
  • Adhere to veterinary protocols for sick animals.
  • Process transactions to enhance guest experience.
  • Support guest interactions and support the selling model.
  • Implement and execute companion animal operations through training and coaching in various areas including animal care, aquatics, and compliance.
  • Manage inventory and order live animals to maximize sales and margins.
  • Maintain operational standards and animal-related maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure high presentation standards in aquatics and animal areas.
  • Partner with merchandising to maintain proper stock levels.
  • Handle and document all adoption animals properly.
  • Analyze sales and margin reports to inform decisions.
  • Lead, coach, and develop team members to provide quality service.
  • Ensure proper scheduling to meet goals and guest service levels.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop team members.
  • Support omni-channel initiatives and company programs.
  • Support Pet Care Center execution, communication, and safety initiatives as a Leader on Duty.
  • Promote a positive leadership culture and team collaboration.
Other Essential Duties

  • Promote safety and ensure policies are followed.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative culture.
  • Prioritize talent development and leadership growth.
  • Engage with the team and represent Petco's brand positively.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
  • At least 1 year of management experience; 2+ preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Proficiency in communication, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Strong guest service and leadership aptitude.
Supervisory Responsibility
  • Supervise Operations Specialists and Senior Aquatics Specialists.
  • Support opening/closing and attendance processes.
Work Environment

This role requires support during key hours, including weekends, mostly indoors, with some physical activity involved. Some travel may be necessary.
