Position Overview

The Operations Leader - Animal Care promotes and ensures the efficient and effective operations of the Companion Animal Department. They drive sales of aquatic pets, reptiles, birds, and small companion animals. This leader coaches and mentors all Pet Care Center partners to support and enhance the guest experience and animal care. Responsibilities include training, developing, supporting scheduling, and leading a high-performing team to meet sales, gross margin, and animal and merchandise shrink targets. They also assist in managing all aspects of the Pet Care Center's business in line with Petco standards and safety procedures.

Position Responsibilities
  • Utilize business acumen to analyze trends and implement improvement plans.
  • Ensure the health and well-being of live animals according to Petco standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Adhere to Veterinary Protocols for all sick animals.
  • Process transactions to create a positive guest experience.
  • Support guest interactions with product knowledge and selling strategies.
  • Implement and execute Companion Animal Operations and Aquatics through training and coaching.
  • Order live animals efficiently to maximize sales, margin, and inventory; analyze inventory data for improvements.
  • Maintain operational standards in the department.
  • Ensure animal-related maintenance tasks are completed.
  • Achieve high presentation standards in aquatics and companion areas.
  • Partner with merchandising to maintain proper stock levels.
  • Handle and document all adoption animals properly.
  • Manage reports and data related to sales and margins.
  • Lead, coach, and provide feedback to all PCC partners for quality service.
  • Ensure proper partner scheduling to meet in-stock and service goals during peak hours.
  • Apply talent management skills in recruiting, hiring, training, and succession planning.
  • Provide quick, courteous service to guests, sharing product knowledge and suggestions.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
  • At least 1 year of management experience; 2+ preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency in communication, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Strong guest service and leadership aptitude.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise Operations Specialists & Senior Aquatics Specialists.
  • Support Pet Care Center operations as Leader on Duty.
Work Environment

This role requires support during key hours, including weekends. Most duties are indoors, but some physical activity and travel are involved. Safety precautions must be followed to prevent injuries.

This position involves contact with guests, partners, vendors, and other departments to coordinate various activities and ensure smooth operations.
