We are seeking individuals who demonstrate these values for an Animal Care Specialist position. As an Animal Care Specialist, you can expect to become part of a growing company and a family-oriented environment.

POSITION OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE:

The Animal Care Specialist is responsible for supporting our breeding and/or farrowing teams. The individual will work with the sow barn manager to establish a schedule, including weekend rotations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Tasks may vary depending on the department but generally include:

  • Providing care for animals, ensuring access to food, water, and a comfortable environment
  • Assisting with the movement of animals
  • Treating and vaccinating animals
  • Maintaining accurate documentation
  • Assisting in power washing
  • Promoting a safe work environment
  • Maintaining PQA certification status (training provided on the job)
  • Following all SFI bio-security policies and procedures
  • Exhibiting strong teamwork by working towards team goals, embracing new technologies, and participating in new projects
  • Being capable of lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. with reasonable accommodations
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
  • Demonstrating Schwartz Farms' core values: integrity, respect, excellence, and adaptability
  • Advocating for and engaging in SFI's animal welfare policies, including promoting animal well-being, addressing issues that impede animal care, and reporting mistreatment or abuse
