General Information
Plays a direct role in achieving Manatee County’s no-kill mission by providing hands-on animal care, collaborating with internal departments to find homes, and serving as ambassadors for residents, volunteers, and adopters. Contributes to the health and wellbeing of dogs and cats, acting as the day-to-day connector between animals and residents.
Note: Position level and salary depend on qualifications (DOQ).
Primarily shelter or outdoor environment. Performs strenuous work in varying weather conditions, including rain, heat, and sunlight. Exposure to animals of all sizes and temperaments. May need to lift up to 50 pounds alone and 100 pounds with assistance. Periodic driving of county vehicles. Requires climbing, bending, reaching, and visual and auditory acuity. May involve high-stress situations with the public. Work outside normal hours including nights, holidays, and weekends.
Assist with adoption processes, provide excellent customer service, interact positively with volunteers, greet visitors, and support animals through feeding, watering, grooming, and medical care. Support behavioral and medical needs, maintain cleanliness, follow safety protocols, and attend training. Specific duties vary by Specialist level:
