Position Overview

As an Operations Specialist in Animal Care, your primary responsibility will be ensuring proper animal husbandry and care for all companion animals and aquatic life in the Pet Care Center (PCC). You will be the main resource for animal care and maintenance, supporting the achievement of the PCC's sales and shrink goals. Your focus will include executing merchandising and inventory strategies, ensuring efficient operations, and partnering with the sales team to meet guest and pet needs. Success in this role requires a passion for animal welfare, health, and proper care, along with a positive team-oriented attitude.

Position Responsibilities

  • Have a strong interest in animal welfare and possess extensive knowledge of companion animals and aquatic life care.
  • Ensure all animals in the PCC receive appropriate care, including maintenance, incident reports, and health checks.
  • Process transactions to enhance guest experience.
  • Support guest interactions using our selling model.
  • Maintain merchandise presentation standards.
  • Complete training and educate team members on animal care and maintenance.
  • Promote teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration.
  • Follow operational policies and procedures.
  • Address guest inquiries and escalate as necessary.
  • Act as a primary resource for animal education and care.
  • Order animals, supplies, and merchandise to maximize sales and inventory management.
  • Analyze inventory data and recommend improvements.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks to maintain a professional environment.
  • Handle and document relinquished and adopted animals properly.
  • Ensure maintenance tasks are completed as scheduled.
  • Participate in physical inventory counts.
  • Follow safety and loss prevention protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Essential Duties

  • Utilize selling behaviors: Provide excellent guest experiences by applying sales techniques.
  • Contribute to a safe environment: Follow safety protocols to protect partners, guests, and pets.
  • Be part of a collaborative culture: Work as a team to meet the health and wellness needs of pets.
  • Engage in career development: Participate in programs to grow your skills and knowledge.

Basic Qualifications

Minimum one year of experience with companion animals and aquatic life. Knowledgeable in animal care, sales aptitude, professional appearance, and genuine interest in animals. Good communication skills are essential.

Certification

Completion and maintenance of the Petco Animal Care Certification program are required.

Education/Skills

High school diploma or GED required. Proficiency in math and basic accounting, with excellent communication skills.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Ensure PCC is opened and closed according to procedures.
  • Follow safety procedures for partners, guests, and pets.

Work Environment

Primarily indoors, with some outdoor activities. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
