Job description

Responsible for performing a wide variety of tasks in support of the efficient and effective operation of the animal care center. Provides assistance to the public on animal-related matters. Schedules client intakes and processes guest intake data, assists with animal adoptions. Provides basic needs of the animals such as cleaning, feeding, and exercise. Maintains safety and sanitation of the care center. Work is performed under the supervision of the Animal Services Shelter Supervisors.

Responsibilities:
  1. Escort customers through the care center; assist in completing applications, forms, and related materials.
  2. Clean and disinfect animal cages, runs, floors, hallways, and reception areas.
  3. Launder bedding, toys, and supplies.
  4. Greet visitors, answer phones, provide information, and resolve issues.
  5. Examine incoming animals for behavior, diseases, injuries, and adoptability upon intake.
  6. Assist clients with animal surrender processes.
  7. Enter and maintain records on animals, including details like weight, food intake, and license numbers.
  8. Process payments for adoptions, licenses, and other services.
  9. Provide daily care, including feeding and watering animals.
  10. Observe animals for signs of illness or behavior issues and report findings.
  11. Calculate and post fees for shelter services.
  12. Enter data into the animal tracking system.
  13. Provide enrichment activities such as walking dogs and playing with animals.
  14. Assist with necessary euthanasia procedures when required.
  15. Provide excellent customer service, demonstrating strong communication and interpersonal skills and explaining laws and ordinances tactfully.
  16. Perform custodial, housekeeping, and preventative maintenance tasks.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.
  18. Maintain dependable and punctual attendance.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • At least three months of clerical and/or animal-related work experience.
  • Valid Florida Class Driver’s License (must be maintained during employment).
  • Successful completion of the Sheriff’s Office pre-employment medical certification.
Work Conditions:
  • Work schedule includes weekends, holidays, and evenings, with varying shifts.
  • Expected to work during emergencies, natural or manmade disasters.
  • Contact with inmates may occur during work.

Successful candidates will undergo a criminal background check, polygraph, and drug screening, and will be subject to ongoing drug testing.
