Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR) is looking to fill the role of Animal Care Assistant (Part-time, OPS)
This position performs routine duties associated with cage sanitation and preparation for reuse in a research setting, including cage maintenance, preventive maintenance of equipment, monitoring equipment for proper function, and maintaining sanitary conditions. Operates mechanical washers and ensures that cage washing and related equipment are in proper working order. Operates autoclaves to sterilize or decontaminate caging and equipment. Assists in receiving and storing materials, food, and supplies. Transports animals, caging, and supplies between animal rooms and facilities. Maintains the sanitary condition of cage wash facilities and other ancillary areas, including corridors and storage rooms. Takes necessary precautions to adhere to OSHA standards, other applicable federal and state regulations, and LAR standard operating procedures when working with hazardous agents, animals, and power equipment.
They will provide diligent and responsible animal care. Feeds and waters animals. Changes and clean cages. Sanitizes equipment and facilities. Records and reports animal abnormalities, including altered eating, drinking, waste elimination, behavior, superficial lesions, and/or death. Assists with technical procedures, including record keeping, animal identification, breeding, sexing, specimen collection, preparing diets, and euthanasia. Records and reports any environmental abnormalities. Provides routine physical maintenance of assigned areas. Performs other duties as assigned.
High School diploma and one year of work experience.
A valid State of Florida or Georgia Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one prior to hire.
Ability to perform physical tasks, such as standing, gripping, reaching, bending, and the ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds.
Experience working with animals or in research.

The desired schedule is 20 hours per week, Monday - Friday, between 07:30 am and 5:30 pm, as determined by the candidate and supervisor. Scheduled shifts would be a minimum of 4 hours.
