Anesthesiologists for the VA in Buffalo, NY
THE SHORT: 3 Anesthesiologists for the VA in Buffalo, NY | $370/hr. | any state license
THE LONG: We were awarded an exclusive contract to provide 3 full-time Anesthesiologists at the VA in Buffalo, NY. Can job share as well. Please see below for all details.

LOCATION: Buffalo VA Medical Center, 3495 Bailey Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14215
START DATE and DURATION:
- ASAP after credentialing, currently planned through 30 Sep 2028, with extensions.
- (Note: the duration is a contract between us and the Government. Like any other job, if life means you must leave, you just give us 60-day notice).
COMPENSATION:
- M-F hours: $370/hr. all-inclusive, 1099
- On-call: $50/hr. (we understand this line is not ideal, but it’s the VA’s max)
- Call-Back: $400/hr.
- Overtime or on-site holiday services are not anticipated.
- We cover Med Mal (claims made + 3yr tail)
SCHEDULE:
- 7-3:30 M-F
- Call from home - be available within 15 minutes by phone, and on-site within 60 minutes
- Weekday call: 3:30 pm – 7 am. All full-time Anesthesiologists (including VA staff) will share the on-call responsibilities, which currently amounts to 4 calls per month. The on-call Anesthesiologist on weekdays stays at the hospital until the last case is finished and then takes call from home (60 min call-back period) until 7 am. The post-call Anesthesiologist is the first to be dismissed the post-call day
- Weekend call is a 24-hour period from 7 am to 7 am the following day and is call from home.
- Anesthesiologists are on call with CRNAs and residents.
- Call-back is rare, only 3-4hrs/week total amongst 3 contract Anesthesiologists
- If your case ends before 3.30 PM, Anesthesiologist should check with the chief of the day if there are any other assignments. On-call starts after 3.30 PM.
- On-call room at the facility is available to use should you desire.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Any state license, full and unrestricted
- Completed an ACGME approved residency in Anesthesiology
- Board Certified / Board Eligible by the ABA
- BLS, ACLS
- Minimum of 3 years post-graduate experience
- NOTE: They would like at least 1 Anesthesiologist who has completed a one-year fellowship in Cardiac Anesthesiology including proficiency with advanced echo. If not fellowship trained, can substitute with sufficient clinical Cardiac Anesthesiology experience (3-5 years working in the field) and be comfortable reading TEE. Cardiac surgeries are done Tuesdays and Thursdays.
TYPES OF CASES:
- General and Other: Vascular, Urology, Ortho, head and neck, breast, skin, soft tissues, abdominal wall, extremities, GI, vascular, and endocrine. They also perform hernia repairs and biliary system, ENT, colorectal, GYN, ophthalmic, OMFS, otorhinolaryngology, plastics, and urology.
- Cardiac: Coronary artery grafting, valve replacement (no TAVRs), cardiac tamponade, open heart, aneurism, Bentall
- Thoracic: VATS, lobectomy, balloon dilation, bronchoscopy, EBUS
- They do NOT have Pediatrics, Neurosurgery, trauma, or OB.
- 20-30 cases per day
SOME SPECIFICS ABOUT THE HOSPITAL AND DEPARTMENT:
- 12 ORs and 4 out of OR rooms (Cath lab, Endo and ICU)
- Hardware and Software used: Apollo anesthesia machine and Philips monitor, Epiq TEE machine, PICIS ARK (electronic record keeping). Others: continuous cardiac output monitors, Cerebral oximetry, A-lines, CVP, etc.
- Department make-up:
- 7 full time Anesthesiologists, 9 part time
- 8 CRNAs
- 40 surgeons
- Approximately 40 RNs, Surgical Techs, Nursing Assistants and Anesthesia Techs.
- Anesthesiologists may supervise 2-3 CRNAs at a time
- Four Anesthesia Residents from the University at Buffalo Anesthesia Residency program rotate at the VA each month. Each weekday the department coordinator assigns one Resident per Anesthesiologist (Anesthesiologists do not oversee student nurse anesthetists).
