Overview

The Martinsburg VA Medical Center is seeking a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist to provide comprehensive perioperative and critical care services to the Veteran population in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Position Highlights

As a Staff Anesthesiologist, you will deliver anesthesia, pain management, and critical care support across operating rooms, procedural suites, and ICU settings. The role emphasizes patient-centered care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and career stability within a federally funded healthcare system.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive preoperative assessments and anesthesia risk evaluations.
  • Order and interpret laboratory, imaging, and diagnostic studies related to anesthetic management.
  • Obtain informed consent and optimize patients for surgery and procedures.
  • Administer general, regional, neuraxial, MAC, and sedation services.
  • Manage airways, including advanced airway procedures and intubation.
  • Monitor physiologic parameters and adjust anesthetic plans throughout procedures.
  • Perform invasive monitoring, including arterial and central venous catheter placement.
  • Manage intraoperative fluid, electrolyte, and blood product therapy.
  • Provide post-anesthesia care in PACU and ICU settings.
  • Perform acute and chronic pain evaluations and management.
  • Administer multimodal analgesia, epidural therapy, peripheral nerve blocks, and PCA management.
  • Provide anesthesia services outside the operating room, including procedural suites, endoscopy, interventional radiology, and cardiac catheterization laboratories.
  • Lead and participate in perioperative emergency response and resuscitation efforts.
  • Provide ventilatory and hemodynamic support for critically ill patients.
  • Supervise and collaborate with CRNAs, residents, and medical students.
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
