Overview
The Martinsburg VA Medical Center is seeking a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist to provide comprehensive perioperative and critical care services to the Veteran population in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Position Highlights
As a Staff Anesthesiologist, you will deliver anesthesia, pain management, and critical care support across operating rooms, procedural suites, and ICU settings. The role emphasizes patient-centered care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and career stability within a federally funded healthcare system.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive preoperative assessments and anesthesia risk evaluations.
- Order and interpret laboratory, imaging, and diagnostic studies related to anesthetic management.
- Obtain informed consent and optimize patients for surgery and procedures.
- Administer general, regional, neuraxial, MAC, and sedation services.
- Manage airways, including advanced airway procedures and intubation.
- Monitor physiologic parameters and adjust anesthetic plans throughout procedures.
- Perform invasive monitoring, including arterial and central venous catheter placement.
- Manage intraoperative fluid, electrolyte, and blood product therapy.
- Provide post-anesthesia care in PACU and ICU settings.
- Perform acute and chronic pain evaluations and management.
- Administer multimodal analgesia, epidural therapy, peripheral nerve blocks, and PCA management.
- Provide anesthesia services outside the operating room, including procedural suites, endoscopy, interventional radiology, and cardiac catheterization laboratories.
- Lead and participate in perioperative emergency response and resuscitation efforts.
- Provide ventilatory and hemodynamic support for critically ill patients.
- Supervise and collaborate with CRNAs, residents, and medical students.
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
