Job summary

Emory Healthcare in Atlanta is seeking an experienced Anesthesia Technologist to support anesthesia providers with advanced clinical and technical care. The role involves invasive monitoring, complex equipment setup, and close collaboration with the anesthesia team in a fast-paced surgical setting.

Candidates should have 3 years of anesthesia tech experience, 2 years cardiac anesthesia exposure, a high school diploma or GED, and BLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all responsibilities of Anesthesia Technologist I and II, with advanced clinical support to anesthesia providers.
  • Assist with invasive monitoring and support high-acuity patient care.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot complex anesthesia-related equipment.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for staff members.
  • Participate in staff training, mentoring, and departmental initiatives.
  • Maintain adherence to safety and infection control standards.

Description
  • Performs all responsibilities of Anesthesia Technologist I and II while providing advanced clinical and technical support to anesthesia providers.
  • Assists with invasive monitoring procedures and supports high-acuity patient care.
  • Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots complex anesthesia-related equipment.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for staff members.
  • Participates in staff training, mentoring, and departmental initiatives.
  • Maintains strict adherence to safety and infection control standards in a dynamic surgical environment.
Clinical Support
  • Assists anesthesia clinicians with the insertion of invasive hemodynamic monitoring lines for patients with complex medical conditions.
Technical Equipment Support
  • Assists with the setup, operation, and maintenance of advanced equipment, which may include:
    • Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
    • Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)
    • Continuous Cardiac Output (CCO) monitoring systems
  • Follows established protocols for equipment inspection and maintenance.
  • Conducts diagnostic tests on equipment to verify optimal functionality.
  • Performs troubleshooting and corrective actions to prevent hazardous situations.
  • Assists with the setup, operation, and maintenance of specialized systems, including:
    • Rapid blood/fluid infusion equipment
    • Prostacyclin vasodilator delivery systems
    • Blood salvage systems
  • Performs daily diagnostic testing on ventilators to ensure readiness for patient use.
Patient Care
  • Manages and supports patients with complex and multifaceted health conditions.
  • Collaborates closely with anesthesia providers to address patient‑specific needs.
  • Anticipates and prepares for less predictable clinical scenarios and outcomes.
Team Collaboration and Leadership
  • Actively participates in the orientation and mentoring of new staff members.
  • Participates in or leads departmental and facility‑wide committees.
  • Serves as a clinical resource and subject matter expert for staff.
Safety and Infection Control
  • Adheres to sterile technique principles and infection control policies.
  • Supports and maintains a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Performs additional related duties as required.
Work Type
  • On‑site position, working at a physical workplace and collaborating directly with colleagues.
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Experience:
    • Three (3) years of experience as an Anesthesia Technologist.
    • Two (2) years of cardiac anesthesia experience.
    • Successful competency‑based evaluation.
  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS).
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced clinical environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with knowledge of medical, surgical, and anesthesia terminology.
  • Proficiency in sterile techniques and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot anesthesia‑support equipment and patient monitoring systems.

  • Troubleshooting / Problem Solving: Ability to systematically identify the source of equipment or process issues and restore proper operation.
  • Infection Control: Knowledge of methods used to prevent or control the spread of pathogens in healthcare settings.
  • Medical Terminology: Ability to accurately use medical terminology throughout patient care documentation and communication.
  • Patient Monitoring: Ability to use medical technology and clinical knowledge to monitor vital signs, physiological parameters, and patient health indicators to support safe and effective care.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium Max 25lbs): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day; 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday; 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday; Lifting 50 lbs max; frequent standing & walking and pushing and pulling; Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Environmental exposures include but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, and environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
