Job Summary

The Anesthesia Tech will perform various patient care, safety, and technical duties to support anesthesia and nursing teams in surgical and procedural areas. The Anesthesia Technician responds to patient-specific needs including blood, medications, supply, and equipment during the surgical procedure. This position is an active member of the Anesthesia OR emergency response/code team and assures all emergency safety equipment is available and in working order.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assists with anesthesia and other supplies as needed, medication management within scope of practice as directed by anesthesia and pharmacy.

  • Organizes anesthesia supplies &/or equipment to ensure availability. Responds to needs of anesthesia providers.

  • Cleans and disinfects instruments, high level disinfection and processing.

  • Assists with patients at risk for malignant hyperthermia and other duties within scope.

  • Performs anesthesia machine testing and support in various areas throughout the hospital.

  • Performs patient identification procedures to ensure proper delivery of blood products and medications.

  • Operates surgical equipment under the direction of a licensed provider.

  • Ensures all Operating Rooms, and pre/post rooms are adequately stocked with appropriate quantity of supplies and required equipment.

  • Ensures Operating Rooms, procedure and pre/post rooms are cleaned and prepared for the next patient to ensure safe and efficient operation.

  • Cleans equipment and implements infection control policies to support the anesthesia practices in surgical and procedural areas.

  • Assists anesthesia and nursing with patient care, patient equipment, and environmental maintenance activities in the Operating Room.

  • Helps with room turnover which includes stocking and cleaning and wiping down anesthesia carts between cases.

  • Sterile processing duties that involve sterilization, high level disinfection and cleaning and disinfection of instruments and equipment.
