Job Profile Summary

This role provides medical and clinical support services to patients, with a focus on anesthesia-related duties. Responsibilities include administering anesthesia during surgical, obstetric, diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures, monitoring patient conditions, supporting vital organ functions, and managing pain for acute, chronic, or cancer-related cases. The role also involves organizational support, such as administrative or clerical tasks, primarily in a 'hands-on' environment. This is an entry-level position requiring minimal prior experience, with work typically routine and closely supervised.

This position supports operating rooms with anesthesia and physiological monitoring equipment, including preparation, cleaning, maintenance, and inventory management of anesthesia supplies and equipment.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR certification.
  • One year of related experience in Surgical Services, Operating Room, or PACU.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree.
  • Emergency Medical Technician Certification.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist anesthesiologists and nursing staff with patient care, including transfers, equipment preparation, intubations, regional anesthesia, and invasive monitor placement.
  • Change soda-lime containers as per guidelines.
  • Set up IV solutions, arterial lines, and equipment for anesthesiologists.
  • Order and maintain anesthesia supplies and equipment.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and maintain service records.
  • Conduct weekly inventory and maintain supplies.
  • Participate in infection control, equipment cleaning, and housekeeping duties.
  • Assist with clerical duties at the control desk.
  • Maintain anesthesia and operating room library.
  • Conduct routine checks of emergency and anesthesia carts, restocking supplies.
  • Manage inventory, replace outdated drugs or equipment, and correct deficiencies.
  • Set up and calibrate invasive monitor transducers.
  • Operate glucometer when necessary.
Physical Requirements
  • Lift, reach, carry, push, and pull 40-50 lbs regularly.
  • Stand/sit for extended periods.
  • Differentiate objects by touch, perceive sounds, and see clearly at near and far distances.
  • Exposure to infectious diseases and chemicals.
Skills & Abilities
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and basic anatomy and physiology.
  • Ability to maintain records and navigate basic computer applications.
  • Sensitivity, maturity, and flexibility in difficult situations.
  • Ability to work with staff at all levels.
